Directions for Substitute Teaching

You need to learn to trust.
When Pink says “Hello,” say “Hello.”

When Blue wags its happy tail,
say, “Beautiful Blue, beautiful Blue.”
When it lifts its lovely wings and leaves,
say, “Goodbye, Goodbye.”

When Red says,
“It’s hard to run in the sand
but I am the fastest,”
say, “Yes, I know.”

When Yellow waves, wave back.

When Orange says, “Yellow is so obvious,
whoever could have thought of me!”
say, “No one, never.”
When Black speaks, saying
“I have been to Benares, the city of the dying,”
say, “Yes, I saw you there.”

And when Green answers,
“I was there also, beginning beginning again.”
say, “Yes, that was good.”

If Purple sits alone,
silent in her high station,
do not scold, it’s her way.

If Brown is absent,
don’t be alarmed,
he’s outside waiting.

When White tells its old, old tale,
“I am the truth, the whole truth,”
say, “Liar, Liar.”

When Gold buries
its bright treasure,
find it. Say,
“Mine, all mine.”
