Clearing the Mind

Why are people so empty headed,
to think the proper purpose of the mind
is ‘Arts and Entertainment.’
Just think of being beheaded-
its clear the proper purpose of the mind
Is ‘Anxiety about Existence.’
Even journalists covering the war,
who are now called ‘embedded’
know they couldn’t do their job
if they were to be beheaded.
They would miss their deadline
and how could you have a headline
if you didn’t have a head
and you couldn’t cheer yourself up
by saying, ‘think of something else,’
how can you say ‘never mind’
if the mind has lost its head.

Where would ‘Goldilocks’ have been without a head
-where then, the ‘just right porridge’
and the ‘just right bed’ and
where would "Little Red Riding Hood"-
well- have put her hood if she didn’t have a head.
or lay her tired body down on Grandma’s bed
and what would she put on her pillow
if she didn’t have a head and
then there’s the books that couldn’t be read
and the hunger that couldn’t be fed.
Its clear the body is just a nuisance
if it doesn’t have a head and
you’re really better off dead
where nothing is enough and
you just don’t mind
whatever is the Matter.
